Job Description

Job Summary:
The Orthopedic Medical Assistant provides support to orthopedic physicians and surgeons in a medical facility, assisting in the delivery of patient care, administrative tasks, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. The role requires a combination of clinical skills, organizational abilities, and excellent interpersonal communication.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Assist orthopedic physicians during patient examinations and procedures. Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining medical history, and assisting with medical procedures as directed. Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care instructions. Apply and remove casts, splints, and braces as instructed by the physician. Perform basic wound care and suture removal under the direction of the physician. Provide assistance with mobility devices such as crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs.
Administrative Duties:
Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic tests. Manage patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. Handle incoming calls, triaging patient inquiries, and addressing concerns. Assist with insurance verification, billing, and coding procedures. Complete and maintain documentation related to patient care, including electronic health records (EHR).
Clinic Operations:
Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and stocking supplies. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies. Assist in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant program preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred. Previous experience working in orthopedics or a related field highly desirable. Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, terminology, and medical instruments. Proficiency in medical software and EHR systems. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards. CPR certification may be required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move freely throughout the clinic. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity for performing clinical procedures and using medical instruments.

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
