Pathologists' Assistant Northwell Health - South Shore University Hospital Bay Shore, NY Full-Time - Contract to Hire Position Overview Northwell Health is seeking a licensed Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology, Clinical Laboratories, and Transfusion Medicine at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, NY. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting surgical pathology operations through specimen grossing, frozen section support, tissue procurement, and collaboration with pathologists to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses. This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-volume academic medical environment alongside pathologists, laboratory leadership, residents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams. Candidates with frozen section experience and specimen adequacy assessment (SNA) experience are highly preferred. Responsibilities Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens Provide frozen section support and assist with intraoperative consultations Prepare and process specimens for histologic evaluation and ancillary testing Obtain and submit tissue for immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular testing, and other specialized studies Assist pathologists with autopsy procedures, specimen procurement, and post-mortem examinations as needed Photograph gross specimens and maintain accurate documentation Participate in laboratory quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory standards Collaborate with pathology, laboratory, and clinical teams to support patient care Assist with the education and mentorship of pathology residents, fellows, and students QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree Current New York State Pathologists' Assistant License Experience supporting surgical pathology operations Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills Preferred ASCP Certification Frozen section experience Specimen adequacy assessment (SNA) experience Experience in a hospital-based pathology laboratory Why Join Northwell Health? $45.00 - $65.00 per hour
