; Posting Details Position Details Title Assistant/Associate/Professor of Clinical Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Specific Title Fort Wayne - Community Surgical Pathologist Faculty Positions Appointment Type Clinical Track Faculty Department IUSM - Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Campus IU School of Medicine Fort Wayne Position Summary The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), in partnership with IU Health Medical Group (IUHMG), is seeking to recruit two anatomic pathologists with strong diagnostic skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology at our brand-new facility opening in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Additional specific subspecialty areas are welcome. The pathology footprint at Fort Wayne will also include a full-time clinical pathologist who will be the CLIA holder, a pathologist's assistant, and a cytologist. This recruitment is part of a strategic expansion driven by continued growth across the Indiana University Health (IU Health) system. IU Health is expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care, with a new 140 bed hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The hospital will bring a broad range of services, including emergency, surgical, and specialty care, closer to home for individuals and families in the region. IU Health Fort Wayne is part of the 17-hospital IU Health Laboratory System served by over 70 pathologists. Although based in Fort Wayne, these positions will have access to the expertise of the subspecialized pathologists operating out of the department's IU Health Central Pathology Laboratory in Indianapolis. Being a part of the expansive IU Health Laboratory system affords the ideal candidate the ability to practice in a community environment with the support of the enriched environment created by an academic pathology practice. The hospital is scheduled to open on May 1, 2027. As such, selected candidates will be expected to begin employment in early 2027 to support onboarding and operational readiness.Responsibilities:
Provide diagnoses of benign and malignant conditions, including tumor grading and staging. Interpret intraoperative consultations (e.g., frozen sections). Correlate histopathologic findings with clinical, radiologic, and laboratory data. Prepare and sign out pathology reports in a timely and accurate manner. Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinical case discussions. Ensure quality assurance and compliance with laboratory standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA). Interpret cytologic specimens, including Pap smears, fine needle aspirations (FNA), and body fluids. Provide diagnostic consultations to clinicians and participate in multidisciplinary case reviews. Perform and supervise FNAs, including rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE). Provide on-call coverage and conference support with department faculty members.Minimum Qualifications:
A Doctorate or terminal degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) is required. Board certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Completion of a Surgical Pathology Fellowship or equivalent experience. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Indiana. Cytopathology experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of a Cytopathology fellowship or equivalent experience, along with board certification in Cytopathology.Benefit Information:
