A Medical Assistant assists physicians and other medical specialists with routine administrative or clinical tasks. Organizes patient records, schedules appointments, and prepares medical equipment. May specialize in administrative or clinical work, or specialize in a particular area of medicine, i.e. assisting in the office of an ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Works in medical offices.
We are seeking a certified Medical Assistant to join our psychiatric outpatient clinic in Burnsville, MN. The ideal candidate will support both clinical and operational functions, including patient care, marketing, and front desk responsibilities. This role is part of a small, dedicated team and includes routine administrative and clinical tasks that help keep the office running smoothly while we provide mental health care to our patients. This is an in person position; remote work is not available. Daily tasks may vary based on clinic needs. Administrative:
Guide new patients through the intake process and explain office policies. Explain insurance coverage, copays, and deductibles to patients. Answer phone calls and assist with patient questions or concerns. Assist with medication refills, prior authorizations, and pharmacy coordination. Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Maintain confidential and accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA. Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
Clinical:
Measure and record vital signs. Record patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints in EMR or update EHRs. Provide patients education with regards to medications, management of disorders, home treatments, and special diets. Prepare patients for exams or psychiatric evaluations and perform routine screening tests. Collection, processing, & charting of lab specimens for UDS. Prepare prescriptions for prescriber authorization. Support psychiatrists and help ensure efficient clinical workflow. Use CPR skills when necessary. Maintain supplies and equipment. Stock and sanitize instruments. Practice OSHA safety standards. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required. At least 3 years of working in a medical office Completion of a Medical Assistant training program and certificate. Typing Skills (must use "home-keys"/ no keyboard pecking). Working knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.). Strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to stay calm in challenging customer service situations. Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to critically think. Knowledge of quality control. Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision, and arm/hand steadiness accurately. Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in EHR systems Ideal Additional Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Accredited 2-4 years college degree or certificate highly desirable. Familiarity with insurance verification and billing. Proficiency in Google Suite.
