Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, organized, and compassionate Referral Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will assist with coordinating patient referrals, specialist appointments, medical records, and follow-up communication to ensure patients receive timely care. Responsibilities Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, imaging centers, therapy offices, and other healthcare facilities. Obtain prior authorizations for referrals, procedures, imaging, and medications as required by insurance. Communicate with patients regarding referral status, appointment details, required documents, and follow-up instructions. Fax, upload, and send medical records, labs, imaging results, and progress notes to referral offices as needed. Follow up with specialist offices to confirm appointments, obtain consult notes, and track referral completion. Answer phone calls appropriately. Maintain organized referral logs and ensure pending referrals are completed in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies. Assist with basic Medical Assistant duties when needed, including rooming patients, taking vitals, and documenting information. Qualifications Medical Assistant experience preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance plans, and referral processes. Experience with eClinicalWorks or electronic medical records preferred. Strong communication and customer service skills. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask. Ability to work well with providers, coworkers, patients, and outside specialist offices. Basic computer skills required. Typing skills required.
