Job Description

About Bay Colony Physicians Bay Colony Physicians is a family medicine practice and a participant in the Privia Gulf Coast ACO. Our clinical team supports Dr. Angel Rivera-Soto, MD, and our physician assistants across walk-in and scheduled visits. We're growing, and this role is a key part of keeping patient care efficient, accurate, and well-documented as volume increases. Position Summary The Medical Assistant provides direct clinical support to the practice's providers — rooming patients, capturing vitals and history, assisting with procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation in Athena EMR. This role works closely with the front desk and care coordination team to keep patient flow on schedule and to support the practice's ACO quality and eCQM performance goals. Key Responsibilities Room patients; obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, and relevant health history in Athena EMR prior to provider visit. Prepare exam rooms and equipment; ensure rooms are stocked, clean, and ready between patients. Assist providers (MD and PA-C) during exams, procedures, and in-office testing as directed. Administer injections, immunizations, and point-of-care testing per provider order and scope of practice. Collect and process lab specimens; coordinate with outside labs on results and follow-up. Document accurately and promptly in Athena EMR, including coding-relevant details for CPT documentation. Support care coordination on quality/eCQM gap closure — outreach for overdue screenings, immunizations, and chronic care follow-ups. Manage prescription refill requests and prior authorization documentation per provider instruction. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and clinical safety protocols, including sterilization and infection control. Communicate professionally with patients, families, and referring providers regarding care instructions and follow-up. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) preferred. Current CPR/BLS certification required. 1-2 years of clinical MA experience in a primary care or family medicine setting preferred. Experience with an EMR system required; Athena EMR experience strongly preferred. Proficient in phlebotomy, injections, and standard point-of-care testing. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy, particularly for ACO/quality-measure reporting. Ability to multitask and stay composed in a fast-paced, high-volume walk-in and scheduled-visit environment. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
