JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the health care provider, this position is a Certified Medical Assistant and is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs general patient care by following established standards and procedures. Greets and prepares patients for the health care provider. Obtains and records vital signs including, but to limited to: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problem. Administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic and/or inhalant administration. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as well as perform routine tests such as EKG's. Schedules patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testing. Documents patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider. Communicates with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician. Prepares, cleans and sterilizes instruments and maintains equipment, disposing of contaminated items according to protocol. Keeps patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly. Escalates non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the Practice Manager or healthcare provider(s). Ensures safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required. Provides for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights Performs other duties as assigned by Practice Manager, Clinic Coordinator, Clinic Director or healthcare provider(s).
BASIC SKILLS
Basic computer skills
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma or GED Current Medical Assistant Certification with a national registry Basic Life Support or able to obtain within 60 days of hire 1 year of medical assisting/clinical experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis to 42" Able to life 10-20 lbs. daily, Able to lift 50-80 lbs. occasionally Standing and walking for extended periods
OSHA TASK CATEGORY TWO
There is an occasional risk of exposure to mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or being splashed during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing a task that is likely to cause exposure. Qualifications Education Required High School or better.
