Dermatology Medical Assistant Reports to:
Clinical Supervisor, Practice Manager, and Medical Provider Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and self-motivated team member to join our dermatology team at Dermatology Specialists of McKinney. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in patient service and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology & anatomy. This role involves assisting healthcare professionals in providing high-quality dermatological care to patients in a fast-paced environment. You will play a crucial part in supporting our providers and ensuring a positive patient experience aligned with our mission to deliver compassionate, medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support:
  • Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and procedures.
  • Perform routine clinical tasks, including taking vital signs, gathering patient histories, and preparing patients for exams.
  • Provide patient education about treatment plans, pre/post-procedure care, and follow-up instructions.
  • Participate actively in procedures to better inform and educate patients about what to expect.
  • Respond to patient inquiries through our patient portal and patient texting software.
Patient Documentation & Records Management:
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR) to aid in accurately documenting patient information. We utilize state of the art digital scribe software called ModMed Scribe 2.0.
  • Manage patient records, ensuring accurate coding for billing and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain organized, up-to-date charts and documentation of patient encounters, lab results, and prescriptions.
Patient Photography & Imaging:
  • Take high-quality patient photographs for documentation and treatment planning or demonstrate a willingness to learn these skills.
  • Ensure all patient images are stored securely in the EHR system, maintaining confidentiality.
Operational & Miscellaneous Support:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and medical equipment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure smooth patient flow and coordination of care.
  • Handle pre/postoperative calls, prescription refills, and coordinate with pharmacies as needed.
  • Meet with and learn from pharmaceutical representatives.
Laboratory & Pathology Management:
  • Prepare specimens for lab pick-up, manage pathology logs, and ensure accurate documentation in patient records.
  • Assist in processing pathology and lab reports for provider review.
Phototherapy & Cosmetic Procedures:
  • Assist with phototherapy treatments under established protocols.
  • Educate patients on skincare routines and post-treatment care.
  • Support providers in cosmetic procedures, ensuring patients understand the process and post-procedure expectations. Qualifications
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program is preferred.
  • Current certification in CPR
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding practices is essential.
  • Dermatology experience preferred
  • Familiarity with operating room procedures and sterile techniques is advantageous.
  • Proficiency or willingness to become proficient in Modernizing Medicine's EMA EMR system.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to educate patients effectively.
  • DermTech Certification (opportunity to obtain this if not already acquired) Skills & Attributes
