Minimum $13.79, Midpoint $17.24, Maximum $20.69 Primary Purpose Completes duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer with guidance from the administrative nurse or campus nurse. Certified Medical Assistants maintain routine clinical records, provide minor first aid care, administer medications, serve as unlicensed diabetic care assistants, and conduct state required health screenings. Qualifications Education/Certification High School diploma or GED Valid certification as a medical assistant Current CPR certification Proof of immunization against Hepatitis B Virus Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills Proficient computer, keyboarding, file maintenance, and clerical skills Ability to implement policies and procedures Experience One year experience in health-related position; experience working with school-age children, preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Health Services Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses according to the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Guidelines for Medical Assistants and to board policy and district procedures. Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures; maintain accurate record of medications dispensed. Serve as an unlicensed diabetic care assistant (UDCA) for the district according to board policy and district procedures. Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure) and accurately document results as required. Communicate findings as needed but especially for abnormal findings to the administrative nurse or campus nurse. Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing, and examining spinal column and scalp. Document findings as requested by the administrative nurse or campus nurse and complete required reports and as directed. Escort students to and from campus health clinic and assist students with disabilities as necessary. Contact parents of students who need to be picked up from school according to established school health services guidelines or as requested by administrative nurse or campus nurse. Contact emergency medical services according to established school health services protocols or as requested by administrative nurse or campus nurse. Safety Use Universal Precautions procedures when providing wound care and cleaning body spills. Maintain an efficient, clean, sanitary, and safe school health clinic including following infection control procedures. Records and Reports Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunizations, medication administration, and individual student treatments. Prepare and maintain correspondence, reports, records and other required documents, Assist with maintaining clinic supply inventory and request supplies as needed. Compliance Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health Services rule, State Board of Education rule, board policy; and comply with district and campus routines and regulations. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible. Maintain confidentiality. Communication and Community Relations Communicate with parents regarding individual students as directed by the administrative nurse or campus nurse. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. Professional Growth and Development Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment and attend professional learning sessions, staff meetings, and other events as assigned. Maintain familiarity with the district's initiatives to better serve the needs of students.

Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED), adaptive equipment, standard office equipment, computer and peripherals

Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension
Lifting:
Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through appropriate physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students
Environment:
Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases
Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
