Job Description

Scenic Bluffs Community Health Center is currently seeking to hire a 32-40 hour per week Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to providers to ensure efficient, patient-centered care. This role is responsible for preparing patients for exams, performing basic clinical tasks, completing documentation in the electronic health record, and supporting patient follow-up and communication. The Medical Assistant helps maintain clean, well-stocked exam rooms; performs CLIA-waived testing; assists with specimen collection; and manages phone calls, referrals, and prior authorizations. This position works collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, and leadership to promote high-quality care and uphold the organization's mission, vision, and values. This position will also work at all locations, La Crosse, Norwalk and Cashton. Clinical Support Assist department providers with patient care and treatments, including but not limited to: Greeting and preparing patients for exams and procedures in a prompt, courteous manner Measuring and recording vital signs Performing phlebotomy and starting IVs Collecting laboratory specimens Completing CLIA-waived lab tests Manage patient panels and reports, including patients who have no-showed, as directed by providers, Clinical Supervisor, Director, or Health and Wellness Coordinator. Complete all patient follow-up tasks as directed, such as: Phone calls Scheduling appointments Referrals to other providers or specialists Patient letters and other outreach Communication & Coordination Manage telephone calls, including: Scheduling appointments Screening calls for triage or urgent needs Recording messages for providers and staff Relaying appropriate health information Complete medication prior authorizations as needed. Monitor incoming faxes, referrals, and other patient information. Documentation & Compliance Complete accurate, legal, and ethical documentation in the electronic health record. Assist in reviewing and improving medical procedures; notify the Lead Medical Assistant when updates or modifications are needed. Maintain exam rooms, ensuring: Cleanliness and readiness for patients Proper supply levels Daily and monthly control testing is completed Medication and product expiration dates are monitored and outdated items removed Additional Responsibilities Participate in meetings or groups as requested. Perform clinical maintenance and cleaning tasks, including equipment quality controls. Act within the scope of practice at all times. Report to work as scheduled. Promote the organization's mission, vision, and values in all interactions. Perform other duties as assigned. Willingness to travel and work at all clinic locations, including La Crosse, Cashton, and Norwalk. General Expectations Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, and the public. Education and/or Experience High school diploma required. Education or experience in healthcare preferred. Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Communication Skills Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and understand documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) helpful but not required. Communicate with patients, families, and coworkers in a responsive, responsible, and team-oriented manner. Computer Skills Working knowledge of computers and ability to learn the practice management system. Physical Demands Sitting or standing for long periods; stooping, bending, and stretching as needed. Occasional lifting of 25 pounds or more. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, copier, and similar equipment. Adequate hearing and vision to meet job requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Work Environment Work is primarily indoors and patient-facing. Frequent interaction with others; interruptions are common. Work may be stressful at times; noise level is usually moderate. Full-time employees work 40 hours per week; limited full-time work 30 hours; part-time less than 29 hours. Hours correspond to health center operating hours (weekdays, no holidays or weekends). Occasional unscheduled overtime may be required. Community involvement is encouraged but not required.
