Job Description
Responsibilities/Duties:
Records patient's history, obtains patient vital signs, height, and weight. Communicates pertinent assessment information to the multidisciplinary team. Greets and rooms patients, prepares patients for examinations, including explanations and expected duration. Assists providers during exams or procedures, including instrument arrangement and appropriate disposal or preparation of instruments for sterilization. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens; assures delivery to laboratory personnel for timely diagnostic testing. Administers medications including oral, sub Q, IM, otic, ophthalmic, buccal, or rectal. Completes EKGs and phlebotomy as needed, maintains treatment rooms. Evaluates the understanding of patient/family explanations. Communicates understanding deficits to the RN or provider as needed. Documents patient assessment findings, patient interventions including medications administered, patient responses, and communication of information to patients, providers, or family members in an effective & timely manner in the electronic medical record. Provides care within the context of excellent service to patients, families, and co-workers; takes responsibility for anticipating, understanding, and satisfying needs while striving to exceed expectations. Excellent service includes treating everyone in the workplace with respect and dignity. Functions within the scope of Medical Assistant practice, notifies supervising licensed personnel of abnormal findings, patient safety issues, patient/family concerns, or any other pertinent information necessary for the delivery of collaborative and safe patient care. Assures patient care and work environments demonstrate safety standards and decrease the likelihood of error or harm to patients; takes corrective action as needed to modify potentially unsafe areas promptly. Adheres to infection prevention best practices. Demonstrates effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers, including: active listening, honesty, ability to convey information, openness to thoughts and ideas expressed by others. Assists new employees with the process of orientation or students in their acquisition of clinical skills. Other duties as assigned.
