Job Description
Job Summary Codes medical observation, outpatient, emergency room and/or ambulatory surgery discharge records for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis, invasive and non-invasive procedures using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems. Abstracts information needed for statistical data, as well as for anesthesia improvement. Provides education to providers in regards to correct coding initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements High school diploma or its equivalent. Must possess one of the following credentials: Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), Certified Obstetrics/Gynecology Coder (COBGC), Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or Certified Procedural Coder Apprentice (CPC-A) . College level Applied Science courses in Anatomy/Physiology and Medical Terminology as required by certifying body. Two years ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience or related coding courses acceptable to Health Information Management. Preferred Job Requirements Three years of billing experience.
