Job Description Our Corporate Business Office (CBO) is dedicated to ensuring accurate and compliant coding practices that support patient care, medical research, and administrative decision-making. Our team is committed to excellence in healthcare revenue cycle management, driving impactful outcomes for our patients and communities. Role Overview As a CBO Coding Complex Specialist, you will review, analyze, and validate diagnostic and procedural codes for reimbursement and billing purposes. Your work ensures compliance with coding guidelines, supports medical research, and optimizes revenue. This role is critical in maintaining accurate patient databases and promoting provider/patient continuity, directly impacting the quality of care and operational efficiency at Henry Ford Health. What You Will Do Review and validate diagnostic and procedural codes applied by front-end coding and clinical teams. Abstract information from the electronic health record to compile patient databases for research and evaluation. Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, and regulatory standards. Identify patterns and trends in coding data and escalate issues to support root-cause analysis. Assist team members and collaborate with colleagues to optimize coding accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Minimum of two (2) years coding experience. Additional specialty coding certification or five (5) years coding experience. Prior experience in a healthcare revenue cycle position. Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), CPC, or CCS. Proficiency in ICD-10 CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, and pharmacology.
Preferred:
One to two (1-2) years college or additional course work in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Record Sciences. Specialty coding experience.
