Job Description

Employment Opportunity:
Medical Coder North Mississippi State Hospital is searching for a Medical Coder for the Tupelo, Mississippi location in Lee County. This is a Contractual Day Shift Position. The Medical Coder will be responsible for translating diagnoses, treatments and prescriptions into standardized coding system such as ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS, verifying documentation supports assigned codes to prevent insurance claim denials or compliance, work closely with medical staff clarifying vague notes and with medical biller to ensure invoices are submitted correctly. The incumbent will support the mission of NMSH to provide the highest quality acute psychiatric care for Northeast Mississippi adults in the process of recovery.
Essential Functions:
This is professional Medical Coder position accountable for assisting the Medical Records Department. The incumbent is responsible for accurately coding physician notes, lab reports, documents, etc. to understand what happened during the patient's hospital stay. This role ensures timely medical coding, resolves discrepencies and supports the revenue cycle through effective communication with Fiscal Services and Medical Staff. Incumbents work under minimum supervision and oversees medical coding functions of the agency. Assign codes to medical procedures and diagnoses. Follow up and clarify any information that is not clear to staff members . Ensure procedures and evaluation methods that provide accurate results. Collect information from physicians and Nurse Practitioners to prepare reports. Receive and review patients' charts and documents for verification and accuracy. Comply with medical coding guidelines and policies. Also may serve as backup for the Medical Billing Specialist in the Fiscal Services Department.
Salary:
$15.00 per hour.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma. Preferred Associate Degree and five (5) years medical coding experience.
