Full Job Description Overview:
Hospital Coder - Inpatient Rehabilitation - Ernest Health Ernest Health is a network of rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospitals. Ernest Health hospitals provide specialized medical and rehabilitative services to patients recovering from disabilities caused by injuries or illnesses, or from chronic or complex medical conditions. Our hospitals are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. CODER We're looking for professionals with a passion for coding, attention to detail, and with excellent communication skills. The Coder is an integral part of the hospital's team, working closely with Physicians and Director of Patient Outcomes (DPO). Successful candidates will enjoy working both independently and collaborating with a team of clinical professionals.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide expertise in the areas of coding and classification systems to healthcare providers throughout our hospital, and help drive improvements of reimbursement, and the revenue cycle. Responsible for timely coding charts in accordance with the current principles of ICD-10 and AHA coding guidelines. The role will initially be performed remotely, allowing the candidate to work from a location of their choice. After this initial phase, the position will transition to an on-site role at the designated facility. This change will ensure that the candidate becomes integrated into the facility's operations and team environment. Performs other daily duties within the Health Information Management Services department as assigned.
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of inpatient or outpatient coding experience preferred. Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines CPC, CCS, CIC, RHIT, or RHIA certification via AHIMA or AAP Our hospital offers comprehensive benefits, designed to support your health and financial well-being.

Qualifications:
Required Skills:
Two years of medical coding experience in
ICD-9/ICD-10
preferred. Medical Coding Certification preferred.
Additional Qualifications/Skills:
Current knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding principles, government regulations, protocols, and third party payer requirements regarding coding and billing. Knowledge of government prospective payment system guidelines preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Demonstrates general computer skills including:
data entry, word processing, email, and record management. Effective organizational and time management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain quality and safety standards. Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality. Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
Responsibilities:
Using
ICD-10-CM
standards, codes, and abstracts medical records for reimbursement purposes. Integrates the hospital's mission and "Guiding Principles" into daily practice.
