An MD or DO degree, board certification in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology (or equivalent) with ongoing maintenance of certification and meet credentialing requirements for Children's National Hospital Division of Anesthesiology, Pain, and Perioperative Medicine. Job Description:
Physician holding this role is responsible for overseeing clinical operations for patients with congenital heart disease requiring anesthesia for cardiac surgery or for non-cardiac procedures. This role also functions to improve and maintain quality metrics, patient safety, and system-based processes for patients with congenital heart disease. Academic responsibilities include promoting education for our advanced cardiac anesthesia fellows and supporting research initiatives for the heart institute. The Heart and Lung center at Children's National includes a 26-bed CICU, a 24-bed intermediate care unit, and a 4-bed cardiac anesthesia recovery unit. On average, our program performs around 350 pediatric cardiac bypass cases, 15-first stage single ventricle palliations, 12 heart transplants, and 800 cardiac catheterizations per year. Pediatric anesthesiology division includes experienced certified anesthesiologist assistants (CAAs), fellows, residents, APPs and RNs, and supports the education of 7 to 8 core pediatric anesthesiology fellows plus 2 advanced cardiac anesthesia fellows per year, anesthesiology residents and Anesthesia Assistant students.
