Exempt Bargaining Unit 0 Description Governors State University (GovState) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center. The Assistant Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center plays a key role in overseeing and enhancing mental health and wellness services for students. This position provides professional counseling, supervises graduate trainees, and collaborates with the Director to develop and implement outreach programming. Responsibilities include assisting in the daily operations of the clinical program, providing administrative oversight for clinical staff and externs, and offering direct counseling services to students with psychological or educational concerns. The Assistant Director also conducts case management, risk assessments, crisis intervention, and outreach initiatives. Additionally, they support training efforts within the Counseling Center and provide consultation to faculty, administrators, staff, students, and other campus stakeholders. Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director works closely with staff to ensure the delivery of comprehensive mental health services for students while fostering collaboration across the campus community. Essential Responsibilities Essential Responsibilities 40% Direct Clinical Services and Operations Management -Provide individual counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and group therapy. Adjust workload based on clinical demand, prioritizing training and outreach during lower utilization periods and clinical duties during peak times. Assist in overseeing daily clinical operations to ensure accessible and timely counseling services. Maintain a flexible schedule to meet student needs while upholding professional and ethical standards. Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, consultations, and referrals. Make referrals to community providers and specialists in compliance with professional and ethical standards. 20% Training and Supervision -Provide training and supervision for graduate students, support staff, and paraprofessionals. Assist in recruiting, hiring, and supervising clinical graduate students. Offer individual and group supervision, assess developmental needs, and support staff in licensure processes. 15% Outreach and Campus Collaboration-Support the Director in developing and delivering outreach programs, workshops, and consultations to promote mental health awareness. Coordinate with campus departments (e.g., Student Health, Residence Life, University Police, Academic Affairs) and external partners to provide integrated care. 10% Leadership & Oversight, Administrative Support, and Performance Monitoring -Act as the Counseling Center's lead in the Director's absence, ensuring continuity of services and administrative functions. Assist with budget management, policy assessment and development, and other administrative tasks as assigned. Support employee performance appraisal processes and provide feedback to enhance service quality. Operate proactively with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative in problem-solving and service improvements. 5% Strategic Planning & Visibility-Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance awareness of counseling services and increase student engagement with available resources. 5% Program Development & Evaluation -Assist in planning and evaluating training and professional development programs within the Counseling Center to ensure effectiveness and alignment with student needs. 5% General Responsibilities-Attend and participate in required meetings and contribute to the overall functioning of the Counseling Center by completing additional tasks as assigned by the Director. Required and Preferred Qualifications Required Education and Experience Ph.D. or Psy.

D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. LCPC licensure in the State of Illinois. Minimum of three years' experience, including clinical counseling, supervision, training, and administrative responsibilities that includes proven experience providing supervision and training to paraprofessionals, externs/interns, and/or counselors. At least three years of clinical experience in a college counseling center or mental health setting. Experience designing and implementing preventive programming and outreach initiatives. Strong skills in clinical assessment, therapy, crisis management, consultation, programming, and planning. Generalist orientation with demonstrated competence inworking with diverse populations. Desired Education and Experience Licensed Psychologist in the State of Illinois. Minimum of five years of progressive clinical and administrative experience in a college counseling center. At least five years of experience in clinical training and supervision. Experience working in a college or university setting, particularly with both residential and large commuter student populations, demonstrated competence in working with diverse populations and supporting the mission of an active university counseling center. Understanding of student affairs and student development within a university environment.
