$13,000 Contractual - 9 Months Appointment Reports To Director of the Health Center and Vice President for Student Affairs.
Position Summary:
The Medical Director serves as the clinical consultant and supervising medical authority for the Elms College Health Center. The Medical Director may be a licensed Physician (MD or DO) or a licensed Nurse Practitioner, as permitted by applicable state laws and regulations. The Medical Director provides clinical oversight, consultation, diagnosis and treatment services, collaborative support to Health Center staff, and guidance regarding health care policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance. The Medical Director functions as an independent contractor and is not considered an employee of the College. The Medical Director shall provide professional medical services in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, accreditation requirements, and College policies. This position requires 2 office hours weekly for patient care and phone or virtual consultation as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Service Provide initial screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of students requiring medical care during established office hours totaling no fewer than two (2) hours per week. Provide medical consultation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care within the Medical Director's scope of practice and professional specialty. Refer patients to appropriate specialists, emergency services, or community healthcare providers when medically indicated. Provide prescriptive authority through a collaborative agreement with the College Nurse Practitioner when required by state law and professional regulations. Remain accessible by telephone, telehealth platform, or other electronic means during regular business hours to the Director of the Health Center and designated clinical staff for consultation and guidance. Clinical Documentation and Medical Records Maintain concurrent documentation of all patient encounters, findings, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and referrals. Ensure the preparation and maintenance of complete, accurate, and timely medical records. Comply with all applicable federal and state laws, including HIPAA requirements, public health regulations, and professional standards governing patient records and confidentiality. Participate in quality assurance and chart review activities as appropriate. Regulatory Compliance and Public Health Reporting Prepare, review, and submit any required reports, documentation, and notifications to the Department of Public Health or other governmental agencies as required by law. Ensure Health Center operations comply with all applicable statutes, regulations, accreditation standards, and professional practice requirements. Assist the College in maintaining compliance with public health mandates and communicable disease reporting requirements. Health Center Leadership and Consultation Provide information, guidance, and clinical consultation to the Director of the Health Center regarding healthcare operations, clinical protocols, and patient care issues. Assist in the development, review, and implementation of Health Center policies, procedures, and clinical protocols. Participate in shared decision-making regarding Health Center operations, strategic planning, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives. Provide clinical oversight and professional guidance to Health Center personnel as appropriate. Personnel Support Participate in the recruitment, interview, and hiring process for Health Center employees when requested. Provide clinical input regarding staff competencies, training needs, and professional development opportunities. Support orientation and onboarding activities for clinical staff as appropriate. Meetings and Collaboration Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the Director of the Health Center and other College representatives as required. Collaborate with College administrators regarding student health concerns, public health initiatives, and emergency preparedness planning. Serve as a resource to the College community on health-related matters when appropriate. Professional Standards Render services in a competent, professional, ethical, and timely manner. Adhere to prevailing standards of medical practice and professional conduct. Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, directives, and accreditation requirements. Comply with all College policies, procedures, rules, and directives applicable to contracted healthcare providers. Minimum Qualifications Licensed Physician (MD or DO) or Licensed Nurse Practitioner in good standing with the appropriate state licensing authority. Current DEA registration and prescriptive authority as required by law. Demonstrated clinical experience in primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, college health, adolescent medicine, or related healthcare setting. Ability to provide collaborative supervision and consultation consistent with state regulations. Knowledge of public health reporting requirements, HIPAA regulations, and healthcare compliance standards. Excellent communication, leadership, and collaborative decision-making skills.
