Job Description

HealthPartners Hospital Medicine- Regional Medical Director The RMD (Regional Medical Director) serves as the senior physician leader responsible for the strategic direction, clinical performance, and organizational alignment of Hospital Medicine across the region. The position focuses on improving quality, safety, patient experience, clinician experience, access, care flow, and cost effectiveness while aligning local operations with broader organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Set and communicate strategic priorities for Hospital Medicine. Lead annual and long-term planning efforts. Supervise and develop Vice Chairs and other physician leaders. Partner with operations, nursing, quality, care management, finance, HR, and executive leadership. Drive performance in quality, safety, patient experience, clinician engagement, throughput, length of stay, and financial stewardship. Support recruitment, retention, succession planning, and leadership development. Promote an inclusive, psychologically safe, high-performing culture. Leadership Scope The RMD oversees Vice Chairs and other physician leaders and works closely with senior medical leadership and operational partners. The role balances regional strategy with site-specific needs and is expected to maintain a clinical presence to stay connected with frontline teams.
Candidate Qualifications Required:
MD or DO with eligibility for unrestricted Minnesota licensure. Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or another relevant specialty. Demonstrated physician leadership experience. Strong communication, leadership, relationship-building, and change-management skills. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and professionalism.
Preferred:
Leadership experience in Hospital Medicine or a multi-site clinical program. Experience supervising physician leaders. Success in strategic planning, quality improvement, workforce planning, and change leadership. Formal training or experience in leadership, business, quality, or healthcare management. Strong clinical and operational performance. Effective development of physician leaders.

PAY RANGE
$385,991.00-$425,551.00 annually based on a 1.0 FTE
PAY RANGE STATEMENT
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Pay within our ranges may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities as well as internal equity.
