Full Job Description Responsibilities/Job Description:
The Hospitalist Site Medical Director is the accountable clinical leader of the assigned hospitalist program with day to day responsibility including: clinical quality, medical staff development, physician engagement, and local hospitalist program performance. The Site Medical Director represents department in pertinent internal and external meetings. This position works closely with site hospitalists and clinicians, system hospitalist administrators, System Hospitalist VP, and other site hospitalist leads and program managers to assure that systems and processes are implemented at the site. Jointly with other providers and through operating committees, ensures that community, medical group, hospital medicine domain, and hospital standards/guidelines of medical practice are maintained. Collaborates with site, domain, and service line leadership to support quality initiatives, medical unit strategy, and operational plans at the site. Responsibilities The Site Medical Director position is a shared role. Two .4 FTE Site Medical Director positions are available. Clinical FTE requirement is a minimum .4 FTE in addition to the .4 FTE administrative directorship responsibilities. Maintains accountability for site hospitalist service meeting targets for clinical quality, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, financial performance, research and education. Works directly with site operational support and/or system hospitalist VP and hospitalist administrator to ensure appropriate staffing is provided on site. Assists senior leaders in execution of organizational strategies and tactics at level of hospitalist program. Maintains accountability for day to day operations of assigned hospitalist program to achieve performance targets/metrics in collaboration with system hospitalist administrator and/or hospitalist operational support . Mentors, holds accountable, and supports professional development of all staff within hospitalist program Monitors patient satisfaction and resolves patient complaints in collaboration with hospital and system administration Provides input to medical staff and medical group development plans and actively participates in recruitment, orientation, and retention. Ensures site participation, reporting and resolution occurs consistent with organizational professional and peer review process Works collaboratively with service lines and hospital administration in the management of site operations. Provides input into performance feedback of hospitalist leadership and management staff. Reviews performance of clinical staff within the hospitalist program and oversees peer review within clinic unit. Supports the development, implementation and evaluation of care system quality improvement initiatives for the system and the hospital. Serves as a role model and sets a positive example. Leads in a manner that puts our patients and families first, promotes continuous quality improvement and organizational values. Attends system medical leader meetings, system hospitalist meetings and medical leadership development courses and seminars. Assures hospitalist participation in organizational committees and initiatives. Encourages utilization of Fairview care system whenever and wherever appropriate, and addressesopportunities to improve care system performance. Assists in optimizing utilization of professional staff and facility capacity in balance with patient demand, satisfaction, and stewardship. Required Qualifications Doctor of Medicine Completion of residency in approved AMA specialty or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Completion of residency in approved AMA specialty 5 years in hospitalist practice Licensed as Physician and Surgeon in Minnesota Holds current credentialed status in good standing Upon Hire Board eligible/certified by appropriate board Upon Hire Ability to obtain and /or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota. Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges Preferred Qualifications Previous medical leadership role
