An Emergency Medical Director within emergency medical services is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. Typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating.

The director is responsible for the leadership, administrative, and managerial duties of the department and all associated FTEs who fall under the scope of responsibility. Works collaboratively with the Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer to achieve overall excellence within the department. The ideal candidate will need to be forward-thinking and provide solutions that will drive strategic success. Have a proven track record in the administration of all duties relative to the position as follows: Responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and operations of the Emergency Department and Sane. Oversee a staff of 90-110 team members Ensure cost-efficient and safe operation of the service provided while ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies including Federal, State, and TJC. Provides vision and leadership over all operations and establishes/maintains policies and procedures to ensure compliance and consistency within the department. Complaint resolutions, promote education of self and staff, CQI, promote multidisciplinary collaboration, serve as community resource and patient resource, assess patient satisfaction, maintain professional attitude, and behavior. Functions within the established budgetary guidelines utilizing sound financial principles. Budget preparation and monitoring, establish and adhere to a staffing plan, adhere to purchasing practices and policy, appropriate program development, assess and implement cost controls, participate in care path formulation and maintenance. Makes an active contribution to the accomplishment of the strategic plans and goals of the organization. Support mission and vision, take part in both internal and external projects, assure understanding of the organization's goals, and serve as a resource person for nursing and the community. Maintains CQI program for staff reward and recognition programs, ongoing assessment of services, practice standards, maintains quality controls and safety standards. Serves on the corporate compliance committee and quality assurance committee and provides reports quarterly.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Health Care or related field, preferred. 3-5 years of leadership experience preferred Proficient in analyzing data and reports Proven ability to manage teams and drive performance outcomes An annual influenza vaccination is required.
