The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a senior-level executive at New London Hospital (NLH), an affiliate member of the Dartmouth Health (DH) system. The CMO serves as the senior physician executive of the hospital leadership team, providing clinical and strategic oversight to key hospital functions. The CMO will be a key leader in a truly interdisciplinary effort to continue growth and to reach and sustain its goals. Together with others, the CMO will take the lead on many critical initiatives. The CMO ensures high quality, patient-centered care by leading clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital. This is accomplished through a matrix reporting relationship with the President and CEO of New London Hospital (primary leader) and the Chief Clinical Officer of Dartmouth Health (system leader).
This individual will:
  • Work with the senior executive team of the hospitals to achieve high value care, including patient satisfaction, quality and patient safety, clinical efficiency, and population health.
  • Work to align the goals of the organization with multidisciplinary approaches to care and work to further develop the patient safety plan.
  • Work with senior leaders to continue to engage physicians in the implementation of strategies to achieve quality outcomes, while reducing infection rates and the cost per case.
  • Provide leadership, accountability, and direction to achieve the highest level of quality standards with specific focus on infection control, risk management, and peer review.
The CMO at Dartmouth Health New London Hospital will oversee and be accountable for hospital performance improvement and value creation, patient logistics, clinical effectiveness, clinical efficiency, and the physician partner for regulatory services. The CMO will be responsible for regulatory affairs, patient safety and others. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished physician executive with a strong operations background who has demonstrated by earlier accomplishments an ability to define a vision for, and work effectively with other members of the executive management team. He/she will be fully prepared by experience and training to collaboratively establish ambitious goals and support all involved in a comprehensive effort to achieve those goals.   • Qualified candidates will: hold a medical degree (MD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MD/PhD) or equivalent degree(s); be board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine or other relevant American Board of Medical Specialties recognized board; and applicants must be a New Hampshire licensed physician or should be eligible for licensure in the State of New Hampshire.
The preferred candidate will have five or more years of experience as a strategic leader. The successful candidate will have the ability to relate and deal effectively with physicians, administrators, support staff and the general public with a high degree of tact and discretion. Responsibilities
  • Promotes effective, constructive communication among the medical staff, allied health providers and the rest of the organization and the D-HH system.
  • Responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality medical care.
  • Partners with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in a dyad model to ensure all inpatient and outpatient departments are running efficiently and achieving quality and budget targets.
  • Responsible for organizing the M&M meetings and other education functions for the medical staff.
  • Appoints Medical Directors with input from the practitioners within each service.
  • Provides direction and assistance to and mentors the Medical Directors to ensure that high-quality and effective care is provided in a collaborative and professional manner.
