Veterinary Medical Director - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Up to $220,000 | Sign-On Bonus | Clinical Leadership | Multi-Doctor Hospital This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on clinical medicine with genuine leadership responsibility. You'll lead an established veterinary team, mentor and develop fellow clinicians, and help shape the medical direction of a successful hospital while continuing to manage your own varied medical and surgical caseload. About the Hospital This established multi-doctor companion animal hospital provides comprehensive veterinary care for dogs and cats within a modern, well-equipped clinical environment. The practice has developed a strong reputation for high-quality medicine and client service while creating a collaborative culture where doctors are encouraged to discuss cases, share knowledge, and support one another.

Wellness and preventative medicine Comprehensive medical examinations Vaccination and parasite prevention Internal medicine Chronic disease management Urgent care appointments Soft tissue surgery Comprehensive dentistry Digital radiography Diagnostic ultrasound In-house laboratory diagnostics Modern surgical facilities Anesthesia and patient monitoring Pain management Hospitalization and ongoing patient care Electronic medical records Safety-focused radiology protocols You'll work alongside an experienced team of veterinarians supported by Registered Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants, and dedicated client care professionals, giving doctors the support needed to practice efficiently and maintain excellent standards of care . The Medical Director Opportunity As Medical Director, you'll provide clinical leadership while remaining actively involved in patient care. You'll have the opportunity to influence how medicine is practiced within the hospital, establish and maintain strong clinical standards, mentor other veterinarians, and create an environment where the wider team can continue developing professionally.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing clinical leadership for the veterinary team Maintaining and promoting high standards of veterinary medicine Managing your own medical and surgical caseload Mentoring and supporting associate veterinarians Supporting technicians and wider clinical team members Encouraging collaborative case discussions Championing patient safety and clinical best practices Supporting excellent client communication Helping establish and maintain clinical protocols Supporting the professional development of the veterinary team Helping create a positive, engaged, and high-performing hospital culture Working alongside operational leadership to support hospital performance and growth You'll have the autonomy to make a meaningful clinical impact while benefiting from experienced operational teams who can support the non-clinical aspects of running a successful veterinary hospital. The ideal candidate will have:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent Eligibility for veterinary licensure in Pennsylvania Strong companion animal medical and surgical experience Excellent communication and interpersonal skills An interest in mentorship and veterinarian development Strong clinical judgment A collaborative approach to leadership Commitment to exceptional patient and client care Ability to positively influence clinical standards and team culture Previous formal leadership experience would be highly valuable, although experienced veterinarians who have demonstrated strong mentorship and informal clinical leadership may also be considered.
