Palliative Medical Director Sanitas - 3.1 Miami, FL Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Qualifications Program management Cost control End-of-life care Clinical documentation Medical License Home health Full Job Description Job Summary The Medical Director for Palliative Care is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all medical care and quality of services provided to patients in the Palliative Care Program. They ensure proper functioning of day-to-day operations of the clinical program, in coordination with the Director of Palliative Care Operations, Palliative Care Case Manager, and clinical staff, to provide consistent quality of care to patients. This role also provides delivery of medical services to patients in an at home environment. The medical director oversees the activities of group providers, analyzes results and provides feedback. • Provides leadership for a number of activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as cost management, utilization review and quality assurance.
• Collaborates in the development and periodic review of written clinical policies, guidelines and protocols for the functioning of the clinic and responsibilities of the clinicians.
• Supervises risk coding, HEDIS quality metric completion by group providers and provides feedback.
• Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical providers and other clinic staff.
• Plans, assigns, and directs work; assesses and appraises providers performance.
• Assumes responsibility for quality of medical services rendered to patients by monitoring quality and appropriateness of care.
• Provides guidance and leadership for performance guidelines.
• Oversee clinical peer review.
• Provides key input to the development of care delivery policies and procedures.
• Oversees documentation and care planning. Conducts chart audits to ensure documentation meets standards, provides feedback and plan of correction Ensure notes, documentation, and communications are addressed and closed in a timely manner.
• Performs periodic review of practice management functions.
• Ensure availability as the Medical Director to the leadership, providers and staff through phone, text, Google chat and email. Respond to communications in a timely manner.
• Address emergency issues. While our team works standard business hours, as the medical director, you may be contacted off hours for clinical consultation, DNR, or controlled prescription that cannot be handled by the Virtual Medical Center.
• Reviews and signs Do Not Resuscitate orders in a timely manner.
• Reviews and writes for opioids/controlled substances in a timely manner (APRNs will write controlled scripts for a short supply. The Medical Director will submit the rest of the prescription).
• Participate and evaluate during the opioid use meetings for each region within the Palliative Care Program.
• Participate and evaluate during the Emergency Room and Inpatient Admissions meeting helping to determine whether utilization was avoidable or unavoidable, providing education providers on how to avoid unnecessary ER/IP through prevention.
• Assist in attending Regional and other Department patient POD meetings, Florida Blue Extended Length of Stay meetings and assist with screening of patients for the Palliative Care Program.
• Assures a high standard of medical care by reviewing results of patient satisfaction surveys; reviews and participates in resolving clinical patient complaints.
• Maintains OSHA, ACHA, emergency preparedness, infection control and regulatory compliance for the clinic.
• Supports provider education, in-service training and orientation of new medical staff. Present the Palliative Care Program and provide education both inside and outside of Sanitas.
• Ensure the team provides care utilizing a Palliative Care approach by addressing goals of care regularly with the patient and family, documentation is completed correctly and timely, and that the patient receives holistic care through the multidisciplinary team to address medical, social, psycho, spiritual needs.
• Provides professional oversight for advanced practice nurses (ARNP) with collaboration agreements. Provide oversight and guidance for Palliative Care physicians working within the Program.
• Handles provider behavior and impairment issues.
• Analyzes, manages and develops improvement plans for adverse events as well as patient complaints/issues that arise from medical care.
• Leads or participates in meetings. Palliative Care department meetings (daily, weekly, monthly), meetings with other departments, committees, education symposiums, and training.
• Participate and contribute to accreditation preparation and meetings. Learn and follow the New Palex Method through New Health Foundation. The Sanitas Palliative Care Program is accredited through the New Health Foundation.
• Participate and contribute to research and quality projects and improvement.
• Participates and contributes to meetings with insurance payer/s and healthcare organizations.
• Participate and lead in future development projects for the organization.
• Deliver direct patient care within the clinic scope of practice.
• Complete all Sanitas required Provider and staff education, CAPC Provider and other education as assigned in a timely manner.
• This is a full-time position working for the Sanitas Palliative Care Program.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the executive team.

Supervisory Responsibilities The Medical Director manages the providers of the department working alongside the Director of Palliative Care Operations. The Medical Director is responsible for the Paycom, time off, onboarding 30, 60, 90 day reviews, annual goals and review activities for providers. The Medical Director will also participate in interviews along with the Director of Palliative Care and others on the team. The Medical Director will also participate in any disciplinary actions along with the Director of Palliative Care Operations and HR. Required Education

• MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine. Required Experience
• Experience and specialized training in Palliative Care through the completion of a Hospice and/or Palliative Care Fellowship and/or previous experience as a Hospice and/or Palliative Care Medical Director. Required Licenses and Certifications
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Florida Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience. Preferred Qualifications
• Board certified in one of the primary care specialties is preferred.
• At least two years of experience as a Palliative Care Specialist (or completed a hospice and/or palliative care fellowship) and or at least one year as a Medical Director is preferred.
• At least two years of experience working with a multi-cultural patient population delivering patient-centric programs that are high quality and cost effective is preferred.
