Job Description

SHR Talent is partnering with an acute care healthcare client in Charleston, South Carolina in its search for a Director of Free-Standing Emergency Department Services. This is a permanent, full-time leadership opportunity offering comprehensive benefits, a Monday through Friday schedule, and no weekend requirements. The organization is seeking an experienced emergency services leader to oversee operations across a growing network of freestanding emergency departments while supporting strategic initiatives across multiple hospital campuses. The Director of Free-Standing Emergency Department Services will provide operational, clinical, and administrative leadership for multiple freestanding emergency facilities serving a rapidly expanding market. This role is responsible for ensuring exceptional patient care, driving employee engagement, maintaining regulatory compliance, overseeing departmental performance, and fostering strong collaboration with executive leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of emergency department leadership within an acute care environment, strong operational and financial management skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This position offers significant visibility and long-term growth potential as the health system continues expanding its emergency services footprint through the development of additional freestanding emergency departments.
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for multiple freestanding emergency department locations Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered emergency care while maintaining compliance with clinical and regulatory standards Lead employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and performance management initiatives Monitor and improve key performance indicators including patient satisfaction, throughput, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve organizational goals Oversee ancillary services including imaging, point-of-care laboratory operations, admitting, security, environmental services, and support functions Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency services programs that support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives Lead departmental budgeting, resource allocation, staffing strategies, and operational planning efforts Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety requirements Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional development, and continuous improvement Participate in hospital-wide committees and leadership initiatives while serving as a key advocate for emergency services operations Mentor managers and emerging leaders to strengthen leadership pipelines and organizational growth
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification required Minimum of three years of emergency services leadership experience required Minimum of three years of emergency department clinical experience required Previous Emergency Department Director experience strongly preferred Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) leadership experience preferred Strong understanding of emergency department operations, quality improvement, patient flow, and regulatory compliance standards Demonstrated experience leading managers, developing teams, and driving employee engagement initiatives Experience managing operational budgets, performance metrics, and strategic growth initiatives preferred Excellent communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and organizational leadership skills Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare technology platforms preferred
