Job Description

A 326-bed acute care hospital in El Paso is seeking an experienced nursing leader to serve as Director of Emergency Services. This facility is recognized for its regional kidney transplant program and Level III trauma designation, with a high-volume emergency department that serves a diverse population, including cross-border transfers from southern Mexico and surrounding communities. The emergency department includes 32 beds and operates in a fast-paced environment that requires strong leadership, operational discipline, and a focus on patient flow, quality outcomes, and staff engagement. Position Overview This role provides full oversight of emergency department nursing practice and daily operations. The Director leads a team of approximately 80 FTEs along with four clinical nurse coordinators, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care delivery. A key focus of this position is improving throughput and operational performance while maintaining strong clinical standards. This includes supporting evidence-based practice, managing variation in care, and strengthening collaboration across departments and physician partners. Key Responsibilities Lead overall operations and clinical performance of the emergency department Manage staffing, scheduling, and daily workflow for a high-volume ED environment Guide and support a team of nurses, including clinical nurse coordinators and frontline staff Improve patient flow through effective admission, discharge, and transfer coordination Implement and reinforce evidence-based clinical practices and standards of care Monitor quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and patient safety initiatives Partner with physicians and hospital leadership to evaluate service lines and support growth opportunities Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure appropriate staffing and patient care alignment Identify operational challenges and lead process improvement efforts Support strategic planning for emergency services expansion and performance optimization Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required; 5+ years preferred Prior experience as an Emergency Department Manager or Director in an acute care hospital required Strong background in emergency services operations, patient flow management, and team leadership Benefits Sign-on bonus available Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage Retirement savings plan Paid time off and holiday benefits Employee wellness and support programs Leadership development and continuing education opportunities Opportunity to lead a high-acuity emergency department with regional impact Stable day-shift schedule with no weekend requirement This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing emergency department within a busy acute care hospital serving a diverse and growing patient population.
