THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION
- DESCRIPTION
OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under a dual-employed fellowship with an accredited medical institution and the City of Houston's Fire Department (HFD), prepares for leadership and medical oversight roles in Emergency Medical Services outside of a hospital/medical setting. Participates in the direction of paramedics and emergency services personnel by performing functions that parallel an Assistant EMS Physician Directors' daily duty.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the daily activities of EMS as delegated by the EMS Physician Director and EMS Associate Physician Director
- Provide on-scene quality assurance, medical direction and supervision.
- Participate in on-line medical control on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Educate, train and examine firefighter EMT's and Paramedics.
- Participate in quality assurance/quality improvement activities
- Initiate and directly assist in various research projects
- Represent City of Houston Fire Department Emergency Medical Services at the local, state and national EMS meetings
- Participate in a leadership role for Mass Gathering/Mass Casualty planning.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Medical Doctor's degree or Osteopathic Medical degree from an American Medical Association or similarly accredited medical school.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a license to practice medicine in the State of Texas within three months of time of hire. Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed an ACGME Accredited Residency program and are accepted into an ACGME Accredited EMS Fellowship program having an existing Program Learning Agreement with the City of Houston.- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
