Medical Director, Vascular Surgery VHC Health - Arlington, Virginia Full-Time | Hospital-Based Practice VHC Health is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and visionary Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon to serve as the inaugural Medical Director, Vascular Surgery at VHC Health in Arlington, Virginia. This is a unique opportunity for a senior physician leader to build and expand a comprehensive vascular surgery program within one of the highest-performing independent health systems in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Position Overview The Medical Director, Vascular Surgery will serve as the clinical and strategic leader responsible for developing, growing, and advancing VHC Health's vascular surgery program. Because this is a growing and evolving service line, the organization seeks a physician leader with substantial experience in vascular surgery, program development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and operational leadership. This role is ideal for a surgeon who is energized by the opportunity to expand clinical services, strengthen referral networks, enhance procedural capabilities, and shape the future vision of vascular care delivery across the health system. The Medical Director will work closely with executive leadership, cardiology, interventional radiology, operating room leadership, wound care services, critical care teams, nephrology, podiatry, and primary care physicians to create a comprehensive, integrated vascular program focused on exceptional patient outcomes, innovation, and growth. Clinical Responsibilities Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient vascular surgery care Perform open and endovascular procedures for arterial and venous disease Evaluate and manage patients with peripheral arterial disease, carotid disease, aortic pathology, dialysis access needs, venous disease, limb ischemia, and complex vascular conditions Perform minimally invasive and advanced endovascular interventions Participate in inpatient consultations, emergency vascular call coverage, and perioperative management Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate evidence-based vascular care Support limb preservation, wound care, and vascular access initiatives Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record Medical Director Leadership Responsibilities Program Development & Growth Lead the development and expansion of the vascular surgery program Build referral pathways, operational workflows, and integrated vascular care models Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning and cardiovascular service-line growth initiatives Assist in physician and APP recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts Develop relationships with referring physicians and regional healthcare partners Identify opportunities for growth in endovascular therapies, limb preservation, dialysis access, venous disease management, and vascular imaging services Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited medical school Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency Completion of accredited Vascular Surgery fellowship training required Board Certification in Vascular Surgery required Eligibility for unrestricted Virginia medical licensure Minimum of 5 years of post-training vascular surgery experience strongly preferred Demonstrated expertise in open and endovascular vascular procedures Prior leadership experience as a Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Division Chief, or service-line leader preferred Experience in program development, operational growth, or procedural service expansion strongly preferred Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation, quality improvement, and patient-centered care Position Highlights Opportunity to build and lead a growing vascular surgery program Full-time employed physician leadership position Combination of clinical practice and executive-level medical directorship Strong administrative, operational, and nursing support Collaborative cardiovascular and surgical environment Independent health system with agility and physician influence Access to a diverse and growing patient population in Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC region Compensation & Benefits Competitive physician executive compensation package Leadership stipend plus productivity and quality incentives Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits Generous paid time off and CME allowance Retirement plan options Malpractice insurance with tail coverage Relocation assistance available About Arlington, Virginia Located just minutes from Washington, DC, Arlington offers an exceptional quality of life with nationally ranked schools, vibrant neighborhoods, extensive parks and trails, and convenient access to culture, dining, and international travel.
