Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Optician Manager to lead our optical team and oversee all aspects of optical services within our healthcare or retail environment. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of optical products, and patient care, combined with strong leadership and management capabilities. As an Optician Manager, you will ensure the delivery of exceptional eye care services, maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, and foster a welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to community health while advancing their career in optical management. Responsibilities Lead and supervise the optical team, providing training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of patient care and customer service. Manage daily operations of the optical department, including scheduling, inventory control, and sales performance tracking. Oversee patient interactions by assisting with frame selection, lens options, and explaining optical prescriptions clearly and professionally. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) to protect patient confidentiality and medical records. Collaborate with clinic staff to coordinate patient care, including understanding medical terminology related to eye health and physiology. Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or similar platforms; ensure proper documentation of prescriptions, billing, and laboratory results. Implement retail sales strategies that enhance customer satisfaction while meeting departmental goals; utilize retail math skills to analyze sales data effectively. Stay informed about advances in optometry, vision insurance billing, medical billing practices, and pediatric or senior care needs relevant to eye health services. Skills Extensive knowledge of optometry principles, anatomy of the eye, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic or comparable platforms for managing medical records efficiently. Strong laboratory experience in lens fabrication and optical device fitting; familiarity with aseptic techniques is essential. Experience in retail management including retail sales techniques, retail math, and inventory control practices. Ability to interpret vital signs related to patient health assessments when necessary for comprehensive eye care. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of medical information at all times. Familiarity with medical coding and billing processes associated with optometry or ophthalmology clinics. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams in a fast-paced environment; experience managing staff in clinic or retail settings is preferred. Competence in providing specialized care for pediatric or senior populations requiring tailored eye health services.
