No Department Overview The School of Dentistry shares the mission of the Oregon Health & Science University to provide educational programs, basic and clinical research, and high quality care and community programs. The dental school prepares graduates in general dentistry and the dental specialties to deliver compassionate and ethical oro-facial health care. Function/Duties of Position The Dental Assistants Supervisor is responsible for training, mentoring, evaluation, and performance management of designated dental assistants in the School of Dentistry Clinics in RLSB. This position reports directly to the Dental Practice Manager working closely in the recruitment and retention of dental assistants and on issues related productivity and staffing. This position aligns with the School of Dentistry on strategic, operational patient experience and performance improvement initiatives. The Supervisor is responsible for the daily clinical operations of the designated clinics and provides direct supervision to direct reports including planning, assigning, and organizing work. They work closely with Human Resources for hiring and retention and for management of complaints and grievances. They work closely with the Dental Practice Manager in managing professional relationships and personnel issues, including assisting and motivating staff to perform optimally and fostering an environment of accountability. The Supervisor sets daily priorities and resolves work related problems. The position oversees staffing controls that relate to workload and compliance. In addition, the Supervisor provides support and acts as a resource to the leadership, faculty, residents and students in the clinical areas. The Supervisor models behavior and productivity adhering to the Core Competencies, the Code of Conduct and ensures that all direct reports do the same. Required Qualifications Associate Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Completion of an approved Dental Assistant training program AND Two years experience as a chair side Dental Assistant in an advanced role OR Three years experience as a chair side Dental Assistant in an advanced role Minimum of 2 years clinical experience with previous lead/supervisory experience Must have worked as a dental assistant in an advanced role within the last 5 years Detailed knowledge and skills in dental assisting including surgical procedures Proficiency with MS Office Suite, to include Word and Excel Demonstrated strong communication and analytical skills, an ability to work collaboratively, and function independently Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality issues Certification by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry for Radiological Proficiency Current valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) card required Preferred Qualifications Experience in an academic dental clinical setting Proficiency with MS Office Suite, to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Certification to include:
