GED Full Job Description Overview:
Unity Point St. Luke's Part Time, Days 8a-4:30p, on-site position Days of the week and start and end time flexible if hours are withing first shift time frame. Receives, validates, documents, and fulfills requests for information from the legal medical record in compliance with HIPAA, privacy laws, and organizational policy. Prepares and releases appropriate records or routes requests to approved vendors; maintains accurate tracking and accounting of disclosures; and performs quality checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and timeliness. Verifies authorizations and identities (including parental proxy), manages invoicing and fee processing per policy, and categorizes and distributes incoming correspondence and system-generated mail using EMR and document management tools. Collaborates with clinical, revenue cycle, and compliance teams to resolve discrepancies and provide required documentation that supports patient care, legal matters, and timely claims processing. Responsibilities:
Prepare medical information to fulfill requests from or for patients, family members, insurance companies, attorneys, court orders/subpoenas, physicians and/or their office staff, other health care facilities and other third parties in accordance with facility policy and procedures in addition to state and federal laws. Responsible for notifying appropriate UnityPoint Health areas of any court order/subpoena related to the organization or its employees. Log and fulfill requests or submits request to approved release of information vendor for fulfillment. Completes invoice for appropriate requestors and follows up on requests for payment when fulfilled by the facility staff. Responsible for receipt and validation of a properly executed HIPAA compliant authorization and/or request. Collaborate with appropriate functional departments and staff to investigate and resolve issues related to documents, MPI, and other HIPAA requests such as accounting for disclosures. Prioritize and respond to release of information requests within required timeframes Perform self-quality checks to assure record completeness, accuracy of the release, confidentiality and proper invoicing. Meets measures as determined and required for job productivity, quality and performance improvement. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and facility information processed.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school or GED equivalent required. Associates degree in Health Science or Medical Terminology preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in a hospital/clinic setting or experience with electronic health records or other related office experience or customer service experience. Prefer three (3+) years of experience with an electronic health record or prior Release of Information experience. License(s)/Certification(s): Prefer RHIT, RHIA or CRIS Certification, but not required.
