Job Description
Overview We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Insurance Verification and Authorization Coordinator to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage, obtaining prior authorizations, and ensuring all insurance information is accurately documented within electronic health records. Your expertise will help streamline patient care processes, reduce claim denials, and enhance overall patient satisfaction. Duties Verify patient insurance coverage by reviewing insurance cards and electronic health records (EHR) to confirm eligibility and benefits. Obtain prior authorization from insurance companies for scheduled procedures, treatments, or diagnostic tests, following established protocols. Communicate effectively with managed care organizations and insurance providers to clarify coverage details and resolve authorization issues promptly. Maintain accurate documentation of all verification activities, authorizations obtained, and correspondence in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure all necessary documentation is complete for billing and claims processing. Monitor the status of pending authorizations and follow up regularly to prevent delays in patient care or billing cycles. Stay updated on health insurance policies, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards to ensure accurate processing. Utilize Microsoft Office tools and EMR/EHR systems efficiently to manage medical records, verify insurance data, and generate reports as needed. Skills Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient information at all times. Proficiency in medical terminology, medical billing, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10), and insurance verification processes. Experience with health insurance policies, managed care plans, and prior authorization procedures within a healthcare setting. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) management systems and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with patients, providers, and insurance representatives. Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred, along with knowledge of medical records management and insurance claim processes.
