Job Summary The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential patient medical records. Duties include scanning documents, filing records, processing medical record requests, ensuring documentation is complete, and complying with all HIPAA privacy regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, proficient with electronic health records (EHR), and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced medical office while providing excellent customer service to patients and staff. MUST have medical office experience. Duties Accurately organize, file, and maintain comprehensive medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems and paper formats. Ensure compliance with healthcare privacy protection laws and clinical confidentiality policies during all records handling activities. Review and update patient information regularly to reflect current health status, treatment plans, and billing details. Assist clinical staff by retrieving medical records promptly for patient care, audits, or legal purposes. Implement and monitor health information regulatory compliance standards across all documentation processes. Support revenue cycle management by ensuring accurate coding and documentation for billing purposes. Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation of medical procedures, diagnoses, and treatments. Maintain proficiency in medical coding, health information management practices, and EMR/EHR systems to optimize records accuracy. Qualifications Proven experience working in a medical office or healthcare environment with a focus on medical records management. Strong knowledge of health regulation policies, healthcare privacy laws, and clinical confidentiality standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems such as EMR/EHR platforms. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical coding, and revenue cycle management processes. Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail to ensure accurate recordkeeping. Effective communication skills to interact professionally with healthcare providers, patients, and administrative staff. Prior experience in records management or health information management is mandatory.
