Job Description

The HIM Analyst is tasked with the responsibility of validating, processing and sending copies of medical records for Chilton Medical Center. Is responsible for processing all releases in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The HIM Analyst must have strong knowledge of release of information guidelines per State and Federal Laws. Upholds Security and Confidentiality guidelines for record access and review. Observe all policies regarding the patient's Right to Privacy, confidentiality of medical records and the legal interest of the hospital and medical staff. Courteously answers the telephone for both internal and external customers. Retrieves, sorts and stamps all incoming mail in preparation for logging and invoicing. Retrieves faxes and places the faxed documents with the daily mail in chronological order in preparation for processing. Logs all release of medical information in the ROI tracking system to indicate the requestor, address, date sent, and the type of documents sent. Password protects all electronic media. Certifies medical records as requested/needed. Process in person requests during hours of operation, along with validate identity. Create and prepare all Radiology discs requested. Create and release any requested records via MyChart Process any Proxy requests Process requests on PFS workqueue along with all other work queues in the tracking system If applicable, process incoming checks and validates the medical record in either printed or electronic media form prior to final release. Tracks and orders office supplies for the department. Forwards all questionable request for release of information to HIM Supervisor prior to any release of information. External/Internal Audits - Build batch, provide charts to reviewer Denial Tracking- Processes all requests for medical records for DRG/Medical Necessity review; e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, etc. with 100% accuracy. Also logs these requests in the audit/denial tracking system. Works closely with Supervisor, Coding on processing results/findings as well as with Physician Advisors on appeals.
Education:
• Associate degree in Health Information or bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, or High School diploma with experience working in healthcare. AHIMA credential is preferred. HS Diploma or GED required
Preferred:
• Two years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting working with electronic medical record systems. Preferred experience in release of information.
