Job Description

This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities :
Maintains accurate and available patient health information by gathering records from appropriate hospital departments and scanning those records into the facility's electronic records system. Retrieves information from the system for fulfillment of health information requests from patients, legal representatives, other health care facilities, insurance companies, etc, as appropriate and in accordance with HIPPAA and facility guidelines. Timely conversion of data from paper health information charts to electronic health information charts via scanning. Pick up charts from previous day from various hospital departments and bring back to the Health Information department for scanning as well as using patient listings to ensure that all the previous day's records are present. Ensure the accuracy of data entered into electronic medical record charts. Answer main phone line with the intent of assisting with requests for health information from appropriate requestors, as well as greeting and assisting in-person requestors, according to HIPPAA and facility guidelines. Assist in evaluation of patient records by checking for all required information as well as ensuring that all required signatures/authentication are present. Maintains a list of incomplete findings for each record upon discharge. Ensure that all scans are as clean and legible as possible. Assemble records in appropriate order before scanning into the electronic medical record. Performance of other departmental duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) At least 1 year of experience in medical billing & coding preferred. Coding Certification desired (CPC or RHIT)
