Job Description

Overview:
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to ensure that the medical records for JRMC and its patients are available in an efficient and timely manner. The position requires that the medical records technician compile, process, and maintain patients' records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of CJMC. Additionally, the JRMC staff is required to maintain patients' confidentiality in regards to HIPAA and other federal, state and local regulations as stated in the CJMC policies and procedures manual.
Responsibilities:
Assemble medical records to conform to corporate standards and departmental requirements. Protect the security of medical records to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained as required by HIPAA. Review records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with corporate regulations. Respond in a timely manner to request for patient information from internal and external agencies. Ensure that all patient documentation is electronically filed in the correct location within the electronic medical record (EMR) as defined in corporate guidelines. Ensure that medical authorization and other forms are completed and the proper identification is obtained. Accurately account for all medical records removed and returned to the medical records department. Perform clerical functions incidental to record maintenance activities. Establishes and maintain security and access control for records. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Demonstrate ability to readily adapt to changes. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures. Ability to follow instructions, given either orally or in writing. Able to communicate information clearly and effectively. Ability to work independently. Demonstrate timely effective follow-through with assigned tasks. Able to manage time under tight time constrains. Maintain high level of confidentially. Ability to complete assignment in a timely manner. Working knowledge of CJMC policies and procedures.
