Job Description

Job Overview San Antonio Kidney is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Medical Records Technician to support our growing nephrology practice. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient medical records while ensuring timely processing of requests, audits, and documentation. The ideal candidate is highly organized, knowledgeable in healthcare documentation standards, and committed to delivering exceptional service to patients, providers, and business partners. Duties Process and fulfill medical records requests, including legal, disability, and HEDIS requests. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and Texas Medical Board requirements regarding records release. Prepare and provide documentation for carrier audits and pre-payment audits.

Invoice vendors for records requests and completed forms. Maintain records retention schedules and securely dispose of documents when appropriate. Retrieve and process online patient payments. Update and maintain patient demographic information. Assist with business office phone calls and patient inquiries. Qualifications Knowledge & Skills Prior experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting is highly preferred Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and medical record management software (Veradigm EHR is a plus) Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards used in healthcare documentation Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for maintaining accurate records Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism Familiarity with medical records regulations and privacy laws such as HIPAA Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare staff and administrative teams Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred.

Previous healthcare, medical records, billing, or administrative experience preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
