Job Description
Description We are looking for a Referral Coordinator to support referral and insurance authorization activities for a healthcare organization in Oakland, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can navigate front-office workflows, communicate clearly with patients and clinical teams, and help keep referral processes moving efficiently. The right candidate will bring at least one year of relevant experience, a solid grasp of basic medical terminology, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced care environment.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing referral requests to help patients access appropriate specialty and follow-up care.
- Verify insurance details, obtain required authorizations, and confirm supporting documentation is complete before submission.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients, providers, and payer representatives regarding referral status, scheduling needs, and coverage questions.
- Maintain accurate records within practice systems and update referral information to ensure timely follow-through.
- Work closely with front-office and clinical staff to resolve missing information, clarify orders, and prevent delays in care coordination.

- At least 1 year of experience in referral coordination, insurance authorization, or a closely related healthcare support function.
- Prior experience in a medical front office setting with familiarity managing patient-facing administrative tasks.
- Working knowledge of basic medical terminology used in referrals, appointments, and clinical documentation.
- Ability to review details carefully and process referrals with a high level of accuracy and organization.
- Strong communication skills for interacting professionally with patients, providers, and insurance contacts.
- Comfortable using healthcare office systems and handling multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
