Medical Receptionist Sound Obstetrics & Gynecology Shelton, CT Job Details Full-time $37,000 - $38,000 a year 18 hours ago Benefits Disability insurance Qualifications Customer communication OSHA Customer service HIPAA Medical scheduling High school diploma or GED Computer skills Multi-line phone systems Full Job Description Basic Function Responsible for greeting incoming patients and visitors, handling incoming and outgoing telephone calls, and performing various duties in a professional and courteous manner. At all times the employee is responsible for staying in compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Medicare, Medicaid and any other legal or contractual obligations. Responsibilities 1. Answer multi-line telephone system, take accurate messages, screen and direct telephone calls to the appropriate person in an efficient manner. 2. Call patients as needed for scheduling, reminders, etc. 3. Check messages frequently, and respond to all messages as needed. 4. Check fax machine output, and process all faxes received as appropriate. 5. Greet and identify patients and visitors as they enter the office in reference to the daily schedule and obtain all patient information needed (HIPAA, Patient financial form, demographics, insurance, etc) 6. Request patients and visitors be seated in the waiting room in a courteous manner and communicate delays when necessary. 7. Review patient charts to ensure proper documentation and information. Have patients complete all needed forms (cancer screening, depression screening, OB insurance, etc.) 8. Acquire necessary medical records and documents for patient charts through communication/fax with other offices, practices, etc. Verify records requested are received and scanned. 9. Maintain a neat and organized waiting room and order supplies as needed. 10. Schedule patients for appointments, recall appointments and appointments with other offices/facilities as needed in an efficient and friendly manner. 11. Complete and submit insurance forms (Short term disability, WIC, etc) as required 12. Collect payments from patients for services rendered, and collect any prior payments due (as directed by the billing area). Balance and do reporting for all collections made on a daily basis. 13. Review schedules in advance to determine appropriateness of length of appointment, timing (annual, Medicare requirements, etc.) 14. Enter/scan all needed information into medical record - medical results within same day of receipt, and administrative information within same week. 15. Create and send letters for patients as directed by providers (return to work, etc) 16. Enter orders as indicated by providers to correct lab for patient, and fax as needed to facility. 17. Explain and complete "kit" boxes as required (forms, specimen verification, mailing, etc.) 18. Perform other related duties as assigned. Skills Graduation from high school, previous patient contact work in a medical practice would be an advantage. Be able to learn Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Possesses the tact required for patient collections, patient issues with scheduling, patient billing questions, etc. Possess the tact required for working effectively with patients, providers and other employees. Possess the verbal ability to discuss medical and financial issues with patients and be clearly understood.
