CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Adheres to the philosophy and objectives, and policies and procedures of the Medical Center, including safety rules and regulations. Follows the BMC Code of Conduct. Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately to all team members. Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, Providers or designee performs documentation, communication, and scheduling of patients' activities and tests. Processes orders in the computer system to the appropriate ancillary services (i.e. Dietary, Respiratory Care, Radiology, Laboratory, and Social Services) Performs clerical duties in a timely manner related to the admissions, transfers, and discharges of all patients of all ages and inputs into the computer system with pertinent information regarding patients. Serves as a receptionist for the unit. Answers the telephone and intercom systems with appropriate service excellence skills. Interacts with patients and families of all ages in a courteous manner. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Orders supplies and equipment. Receives and places items in their proper storage areas on an ongoing basis. Inputs data into the ordering system. Performs messenger duties as needed. Participates in continuous performance improvement activities as assigned. Assists in orientation of new staff to clerical duties of the unit. Assists with computer system training for all new staff. Schedules appointments for follow-up visits, tests at other facilities, diagnostic tests and obtains prior authorization. Performs other duties within the unit coordinator's responsibility as requested/assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Uses office equipment efficiently (i.e. telephone, fax, copy machine, computer, printer). Works consistently as a team member. Demonstrates effective communication strategies in dealing with patients and hospital personnel. Successful completion of Nursing Services orientation and in-service requirements. Familiarity with computers. HS diploma or GED.
