Unit Secretary - PACU Part Time | 48 hrs. Biweekly | 8a-4:30p - varying days At Meritus Health, we believe that exceptional care begins with exceptional coordination. As a Unit Secretary, you'll be the heartbeat of a high-acuity clinical team—ensuring that every detail, every order, and every interaction supports our mission to improve the health of our community. You'll play a vital part in patient safety and throughput initiatives by organizing unit activities, supporting clinical workflows, and maintaining the integrity of medical records. Whether you're entering physician orders or fielding requests from patients and providers, your ability to stay focused and responsive will help deliver compassionate, efficient care. 2 South (Observation Unit) is dynamic, fast paced unit providing care to patients who meet observation status criteria. Observation criteria is defined as those patients in stable condition but requiring further observation and/or treatment that can occur within a 23-hour period of time. Examples of some of the observation diagnoses accepted would be: Atrial Fibrillation, Asthma, Chest Pain, Syncope, rule out TIA, Abdominal Pain. Once appropriate tests and treatments are completed, patients can be safely discharged or transferred to another unit for admission to the hospital. Key Responsibilities Coordinate, organize, and prioritize unit activities to support patient safety and throughput Handle multiple simultaneous tasks and requests in a high-stress clinical setting Support the healthcare team by managing communications, documentation, and procedural coordination Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the medical record from admission through discharge Accurately enter and verify physician orders in the electronic health record (EHR) system (inpatient setting) Interact professionally with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff—often exceeding 100 unique interactions daily Uphold Meritus Health's values of compassion, excellence, integrity, and collaboration in every task
Minimum Qualifications:
Education High school diploma or equivalent required Completion of an accredited business or medical assistant course, or equivalent experience required Experience Familiarity with medical terminology, clerical-level typing, and Windows-based applications preferred Licensure/Certification Not applicable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple events and requests simultaneously Ability to remain focused and responsive in a dynamic, high-volume environment Professional communication and customer service skills Comfort interacting with a wide range of individuals, including physicians, patients, department heads, and visitors Commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and patient-centered service Caring for Our Team We are committed to supporting the well-being and professional development of our team members through a comprehensive benefits package, which includes: Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Coverage begins on the first of the month following your hire date .
