This hospital has grown in size and capabilities over the decades to become a Level II trauma center, serving the community since 1965. It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University. Scope of work The Unit Secretary coordinates the non-clinical aspects of patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks essential to the functioning of the unit. About this unit 5 North is a 38-bed unit caring for a wide variety of medical, surgical, and chronically ill patients. The unit specializes in the care of diabetes (insulin drips) and renal failure (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis). The unit can accommodate patients who need telemetry (monitored remotely) and oximetry. The patient/nurse ratio is adjusted based on acuity.
