STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the HIM Manager, maintains medical record integrity through proper and authorized release of medical record information for patient, healthcare, legal, insurance company and PRO requests. Assures the proper identification of patients, and the accurate and complete scanning of the medical records and appropriate maintenance of the MPI. Full-time, benefited position working 72 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are Monday- Friday with no nights, weekends or holidays
JOB FUNCTIONS
Release of Information Reviews all requests for medical information and verifies for proper authorization and legal aspects of release. Working knowledge of Epic ROI Module required. Retrieves the medical record and makes appropriate copies for all valid and authorized requests. Prepares billing information for reimbursement of medical record copies as needed. Copies records for requests from NDHCRI, Blue Cross and the RAC Medicare. Stays proficient with state and local legal requirements for proper release of information. Medical Secretary Receives, places, and transfers telephone calls, as the point of contacted for Health Information Management Office. Monitors public access window in HIM and helps internal and external requests to the office. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. ) Preparation and Training- High school level of knowledge preferred with preferred a one or two year college level Medical Secretary or Medical Record Technician curriculum. Must demonstrate some working knowledge in the use of a computer terminal and photocopier. Work Experience
- Two years experience as a Medical Secretary is preferred. Employee must be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology, accuracy, good grammar, and punctuation skills. Attendance
- Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Analytical Ability
- Must possess the ability to properly identify the requested medical record information and follow legal and hospital policy with regard to release. Independent Judgement

Category II position, employee does not have exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Physical and Sensory Effort- This position requires frequent sitting and standing to perform the major responsibilities. Must demonstrate proper ergonomics while typing to prevent soreness or injury. Promotion
