Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred but not required. Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant. Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech. Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance billing processes. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community. Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume phone systems and multitask effectively.
Responsibilities:
Greet and assist patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival. Manage patient appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems. Verify patient insurance information and collect co-payments or fees as required. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical or administrative personnel. Coordinate patient flow by notifying medical staff of patient arrivals and managing waiting room logistics. Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and data entry to support clinical and office staff. Handle patient check-out procedures, including scheduling follow-up appointments and providing necessary documentation.
