Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Medical Receptionist for a busy orthopedic upper extremity practice, where your energetic and organized approach will be vital in creating a welcoming environment for patients and supporting efficient clinic operations. In this role, you will serve as the first point of contact, managing patient interactions, scheduling appointments, and handling administrative tasks with enthusiasm and professionalism. Your expertise in electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical administrative support will ensure smooth daily operations and exceptional patient service. Duties Greet patients warmly and provide outstanding front desk customer service, ensuring a positive first impression Schedule patient appointments accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system (Athenahealth) Verify patient insurance coverage, process medical billing, and handle collections with attention to detail and compliance with HIPAA regulations Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures, update medical records, and review documentation for accuracy and completeness Assist with phone communication, answering inquiries professionally and directing calls appropriately using proper phone etiquette Prepare and review care plans, process CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding for billing purposes Maintain organized filing systems for medical records, ensure confidentiality of health information, and support electronic health records (EHR) management Support clinical staff by performing administrative tasks such as data entry, typing, 10-key typing, and office documentation review Requirements Proven experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment with strong clerical and administrative skills Familiarity with EMR/EHR system Athenahealth Knowledge of health insurance processes, Medicare guidelines, HIPAA compliance, and medical billing/coding procedures including CPT and ICD coding standards (ICD-9/10) Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health record management software Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment Exceptional customer service skills paired with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively Prior clinic experience or healthcare administrative support background is preferred but not required Ability to maintain clinical confidentiality policies while managing sensitive health information Join us in making a difference by providing compassionate care support while advancing your career in healthcare administration.
