Medical Receptionist Description:
Wexford Cardiology is seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our team as we care for our cardiac patients in the community. The Medical Receptionist is responsible for the patient check-in/check-out process, updating patient personal information and insurance information, scheduling patient appointments, handling a multi-line phone system, and the collection of co-pays.Responsibilities:
Performs opening and closing office duties. Maintains patient confidentiality. Greets patients, generates charge slip if needed, and notifies medical staff that the patient has arrived. Researches all information needed to complete billing process including getting all necessary information from the patient. Copies insurance cards and license. Monitors accurate completion of patient registration forms. Registers patients, updates and enters all billing information. Collects copays and past balances. Assists with office flow including patients, pharmaceutical representatives, vendors and couriers. Assists with patient referrals and verifies insurance eligibility as necessary. Answers the telephone and provides information as requested. This includes answering clinical line and taking messages for the nurse. Maintains tidiness of waiting area and reception counter throughout the day. Assists with patient check in/check out, scheduling, etc. as needed. Processes incoming faxes and distributes appropriately. Sends/receives patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations. Cross-trains to cover related positions as required such as scanning, filing/prepping charts; and assists with rooming patients. Performs related work as required. Attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned.Performance Requirements:
Knowledge of office policies and procedures. Knowledge of coding and skill in using computers. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to triage incoming calls appropriately. Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions. Organizational and communication skills—ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, patients, and the general public. Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as a Medical Assistant and/or exposure working in a medical office is preferred. Previous customer service/relations training is preferred. Understanding of cardiology medical terms and prescriptions. Proficiency with computers. Able to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.Benefits:
