Job Description

Join our patient-focused orthopedic practice as a Part-Time Medical Receptionist , where you will serve as the primary front-desk and patient-facing support person during clinic days. This role is focused on creating a welcoming patient experience while helping the clinic run efficiently. Responsibilities include patient check-in and checkout, appointment scheduling, telephone coverage, document processing, and coordination with the physician and medical assistants. This is an on-site, part-time position requiring consistent availability on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is not a remote position. Responsibilities Greet patients and visitors warmly and professionally, creating a positive first impression. Check patients in and out for scheduled appointments. Verify and update patient demographic, contact, insurance, pharmacy, and other registration information. Collect copayments and patient balances as appropriate. Schedule follow-up appointments and other office visits according to physician and clinical staff instructions. Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and route calls to the appropriate staff member. Take accurate patient messages and document communications in the electronic medical record when required. Route clinical questions, prescription requests, imaging questions, and other medical concerns to the appropriate clinical staff. Assist patients with routine nonclinical questions regarding appointments and office procedures. Communicate patient arrivals, delays, cancellations, and scheduling changes to the medical assistants and physician. Help coordinate efficient patient flow throughout clinic. Monitor the reception area and respond promptly to patients needing assistance. Scan and index documents into the electronic medical record. Process and route incoming faxes, patient paperwork, medical records, and other documentation. Review incoming documents for appropriate routing and follow-up. Assist with medical records requests and routine administrative correspondence as assigned. Ensure documents received from patients are appropriately processed and routed. Notify the surgery scheduler when patients elect to proceed with surgery and route surgery-related paperwork promptly. Schedule preoperative or postoperative office visits when directed. Assist with appointment confirmations, rescheduling, and other patient follow-up communications. Coordinate closely with the medical assistants, surgery scheduler, and physician throughout the clinic day. Maintain an organized and professional front desk and reception area. Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and practice privacy requirements. Assist with general clerical, front-office, and administrative duties as needed to support clinic operations. Perform other reasonable duties based on patient, staffing, and clinic needs. Requirements Previous medical office, medical reception, healthcare, or comparable customer-service experience is preferred. Strong patient-service and interpersonal skills. Professional and courteous telephone manner. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to multitask effectively in a busy medical office with frequent interruptions. Comfortable working directly with patients throughout the workday. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn electronic medical record and scheduling systems. Previous experience using an EMR/EHR system is preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus. Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements is preferred. Previous orthopedic, surgical, or specialty medical practice experience is a plus. Experience with insurance verification, medical records, patient scheduling, or other medical-office administrative functions is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent required. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential. Ability to work effectively as part of a small healthcare team. Must be consistently available to work on-site Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday during scheduled clinic hours . The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, organized, and comfortable balancing patient-facing responsibilities with the administrative tasks necessary to keep a busy medical practice running smoothly.
Pay:
$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
