Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing front desk operations, patient interactions, and administrative support within a busy medical or dental office. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems, and a solid understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures. The Medical Receptionist plays a vital role in ensuring smooth clinic operations and delivering exceptional patient service. Duties Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring positive patient experiences. Schedule appointments efficiently using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or Dentrix. Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification processes accurately. Collect payments and process medical billing, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and Medicare claims. Manage patient records, update demographic information, and review documentation for accuracy. Handle multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette; respond to patient inquiries promptly. Maintain organized filing of medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations for health information management. Assist with intake procedures, including data entry and documentation review for new and returning patients. Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and general clerical duties. Coordinate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans and ensure timely patient flow within the clinic setting. Utilize office software such as Microsoft Office to prepare reports and correspondence as needed. Skills Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Eaglesoft, or Dentrix. Familiarity with health information management standards including HIPAA compliance. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; typing skills (including 10 key typing). Effective communication skills both in person and over the phone; bilingual abilities are a plus. Previous experience in a medical office or clinic environment is preferred; dental office experience is advantageous. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail. Knowledge of dental terminology if working within dental clinics; familiarity with insurance verification processes is essential.
