Job Description

Job Summary:
The Ward Clerk in the Procedural suite provides essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of the procedural department. Provides indirect patient care. Meets the communication needs of patients and families, departmental staff, and medical staff. Implements directions from physicians and nursing staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Enters and verifies orders in the computer system. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, coworkers and physicians. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conservation of supplies and equipment. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally with patients and their families and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary. Maintains good working relationships both within in the department and with other departments. Meets current standards and policies in documentation. Politely answers the telephone and communicates information to the appropriate personnel or family. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains an accurate and orderly filing system. Prepare charts for the medical records process. Add charges correctly to the patient's charts. As needed, perform housekeeping duties. Assist with CQI data as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Professional Requirements:
Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times. Excellent attendance record. Wears appropriate clothing for job functions. Wears ID badge. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Regulatory Requirements:
One (1) year of experience in an acute care hospital preferred. Medical terminology course. BLS Certification.
