Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and organized Medical Receptionist to join our eyecare practice! In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment while efficiently managing administrative tasks. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help streamline clinic operations, support accurate medical documentation, and enhance patient service experiences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality healthcare delivery through exceptional front desk support, medical billing, and electronic health records (EHR) management. Responsibilities Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service while managing check-in and check-out procedures. Schedule appointments using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth, ensuring accurate time slots and provider availability. Verify patient insurance coverage, process payments, and handle medical collections with professionalism and accuracy. Maintain and update patient records in EHR systems, reviewing documentation for completeness and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Assist with medical billing processes, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and Medicare claims submission. Answer multi-line phone systems with courteous phone etiquette; address patient inquiries or direct calls to appropriate staff. Manage filing of medical records, perform data entry tasks such as 10-key typing, and support general clerical duties like faxing, scanning, and document review. Support clinical staff by coordinating care plans documentation and ensuring adherence to confidentiality policies. Requirements Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative role; clinic experience is highly preferred. Must be willing to be crosstrained in other areas of the office, such as performing pretests for the doctor, helping patients with glasses and contact lens orders. Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR; familiarity with electronic health records management is essential. Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and medical office management software. Knowledge of health insurance procedures, medical billing practices, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and Medicare processes. Ability to review clinical documentation accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines. Bilingual skills are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively. Exceptional customer service skills with a friendly phone demeanor; ability to handle high-volume phone communication professionally. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in filing, documentation review, and data entry tasks. Experience working in eyecare (optometry or ophthalmology), dental, medical offices is advantageous. Familiarity with clinical confidentiality policies and health information management standards is required. Join our team today!
